One of the reason I love living in L.A. is that you get to attend what still feels to me like ‘surreal’ events. In this case, it was listening to director-producer J.J. Abrams and his composer Michael Giacchino talking 15 feet from me during an hour and half at the Hammer Museum (for free!)
There were no moderator, only the two men, asking each other genuine questions and expanding on them. It was a very casual event and Abrams and Giacchino opened up about their childhood, their friendship and their work.

Hey Sergio, thanks for passing by! I agree, with you, it’s a great video. They were both very genuine in their interaction and Abrams has this amazing ability to casually drop wisdom in a conversation. I also really liked what he said about his directing skills because that’s the way I always felt with him. He is amazingly creative, but until Super 8, I never felt the directing was at a top level. From shot one in Super 8 I could feel there was a director behind the camera though. If you haven’t already read it, check this article from the NY times: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/29/magazine/filmmaker-j-j-abrams-is-a-crowd-teaser.html
And let me know if you want to go to Abrams’ restrooms in Bad Robot after that!
