Andrew Niccol New Sci-Fi Movie Trailer ‘In Time’ is Out. With Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried
During their panel at Comic-Con today 20th Century Fox screened In Time trailer.
In Time is the new movie from writer-director Andrew Niccol, who had the great taste to bring us Gattaca and The Truman Show. Set in a dystopian world (surprise!), it tells the story of Will/Justin Timberlake, who struggles to survive in a world where you stop aging at 25 years old and Time is gold. People have a digital clock on their forearm and pay and get paid with time. If the clock reaches zero, you drop dead. That proves being delicate in a world where you always seem to be running out of time.
I was at the Game of Thrones panel (article to come) while Timberlake and co-star Amanda Seyfried were talking about the movie along with Andrew Niccol, but I read the script last October, then named IM MORTAL, and really liked it. I would have said that I “loved it” if I hadn’t found the ending pushy, and I’m hoping that it has changed since.
The trailer is close to what I had in mind, beside the forearm clock that I was imagining less gigantic, and gives a good idea of Niccol’s Universe which is, as usual, intriguing and with a fertile ground for a powerful social commentary while remaining “entertaining”.
For the writers here who wonder how to start a spec sci-fi script, here is the first page of the script:
In Time will be out October 28, 2011.
UPDATE 07/24/2011: Below is the trailer screened at Comic-Con. It looks good but, alas, follows the tradition of a linear narrative trailer, making it terribly long. At the end of watching it, you get the concept, the love story, the basics of the bigger story. How much is left for you to decide to pay $14? Not much in my taste. Something needs to be done about trailers. Really.
What do you think of the trailer and the digital clock?
