Watch Screenwriter Damon Lindelof’s Interview With Kevin Pollack
This is a long overdue share.
Last June, Damon Lindelof who, until recently was known for being the co-creator of Lost, and is now known for being attached one way or another to any hip/cool sci-fi projects (producer and one of the nine screenwriters credited for Cowboys & Aliens, one of the two screenwriters for Ridley Scott coming Prometheus, and producer and one of the three screenwriters for the Star-Trek sequel), did a two hours interview with Kevin Pollack.
Lindelof answers with a blunt honesty when asked about pretty much anything, which makes him very pleasant to listen to. I had the chance to listen to him live at a Tim Kring signing last year at The Book Soup, that Lindelof was “hosting”, and he won my heart with his uncensored -and often witty- interventions.
Of course, half of the interview focuses on the Lost area and after a mesmerized Pollack says at 2h08 minutes:
I swear we’re going to get to Cowboys & Aliens
a bittersweet Lindelof replies:
Who cares. I mean I love Cowboys & Aliens, I’m just saying, if you’re watching this you probably want to hear me cry about Lost.
What did I say about blunt honesty?
The first half of the interview is by far the most interesting, where you will learn how Lindelof discovered he wanted to become a screenwriter, what is his background, what are his influences and how he ended up being Lost co-creator at age 30. Sadly, there is a big gap between the moment Lindelof decides to go to Hollywood with a dollar and a chewing-gum in his pocket, and the moment he meets J.J. Abrams, and that part is probably the one that is the more relevant to wanna-make-a-living-out-of-writing screenwriters. Or at least to me.
Still, it is without a doubt worth watching. My last advice: skip the first 23 minutes that are unrelated to Lindelof.
