The Wire & Treme Creator, David Simon, Talks About ‘The End of the American Empire and What’s in It For You’
David Simon quotes a journalists School mantra: Try to have an opinion. Try not to suck.
Simon did a presentation at the University of North Carolina titled The American Century and the Decline of Labor that he renamed, while speaking, The End of the American Empire and What’s in It For You.
As you can guess from its title, Simon doesn’t talk about his experience as a show creator and TV writer but rather about his vision, knowledge and understanding of America thanks to his experience as both a TV writer and an ex-police reporter.
Because of his background, the subject matter of his shows, and their singularity, Simon has a unique opinion and position. The talk is slightly shorter than an hour and is, as expected, rich in strong ideas and relevant information.
But beware though, Simon is frank and even though I do find his speech inspiring, this is no ‘you are the best, we are the champions‘ talk. This man is rooted in reality and his way of speaking reflects just that:
