The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Treasure Hunt Keeps Us On The Edge of Our Seat
After a painfully silent 1st of November, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo came back strongly today with three clues at the same time, giving away interesting information about TGWTD shooting and enlightening theories previously explored:
The picture above was posted on Mouth Taped Shut at around 9am PST this morning. It was an easy one and, dare I say it, Star Nubalo commented right away that darkpast, the two words written on the cap, was the solution:
Which revealed the coordinates to the Orlando location and that Fincher has been using DSLR Canon 5D Mark II to shoot possible footage for the movie.
We knew he was shooting with the Red Epic, but he might have decided to use mix footage, a more and more common habit nowadays, the same way Aronofsky shot the subway scene in Black Swan on a Canon 5D Mark II and mixed it with Super 16 and ARRI footage.
An hour after, MTS sent from their twitter account four mysterious tweets:
Chris Mullen and Dan Kellish explained in the New Orleans clue comment section (coming right after this) how to decipher the tweets: I already placed the tweets in the right position, and you need to take the first letter of each tweet and go from top to bottom.
That reveals: WHATISHIDDENINSNOWDOTCOMSLASHMISSINGGIRL or
This one was leading us to Paris, place de l’Odeon to be more precise, and the clue was found in less than an hour.
At about the same time Paris clue was posted on Twitter, Mouth Taped Shut offered us a second picture on their tumblr:
You can see that the word dead is formed within the stones:
New Orleans took a little bit more time but was found as well, and in less than two hours three flowers were given away, taking their place on the grid.
We haven’t seen much pictures of the last hunts, so if any of the happy hunters is reading this post, I’d love to share your pictures of the second clue, the final flower and/or Harriet’s diary! You can email me or tweet me, all the same.
Thankfully, Pete found the New Orleans flower so we have a picture of that, hoping that a picture from the clue will come soon:
Who is Pete? I hear you ask. Pete is a friend of Tori VanTimmeren, yes, the same Tori that deciphered the braille clue (still my favorite so far), and Pete will give her the flower, which is pretty awesome since Tori has been such a help. Good karma for everybody before the Christmas Feel Bad Movie hits us all.
Where Are We Now?
With today’s treasure hunt, two theories explored here before have been smashed:
– Today’s pictures were in color, killing the theory that only black and white pictures held clues.
-The Paris prize was a flower, in other words corresponded to a small square on the grid, killing the theory that bigger rectangles or squares were for international prizes.
We can also agree that there’s no pattern to when Mouth Taped Shut uploads pictures. Yesterday’s picture came very late at night, making some of us believe that it was an indication that today’s post will come late and be an International one, but on the other side of the planet. (I was going for Australia) The trio Orlando/Paris/New-Orleans proved me wrong.
Now a look at the grid, that keeps filling up:
One of the new change that appeared on What Is Hidden In Snow few days ago is the numeration of the clues, so I’ve done a grid with them being apparent, because I cannot help thinking that there’s a reason for all that, and I hope someone will break the code, if any:
There’s still 38 clues to found, 31 of them being flowers, and 7 weeks to go until The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo hits theater. But will the treasure hunt keep going on until the movie is released everywhere or will they finished everything before the North American release? TGWTDT isn’t due until January 18th, 2012 in France so, shall we assume that no matter when the movie will be out, clues will be find beforehand? [Click here for the movie’s released dates]
If so (if the hunt ends before December 21st) we should have an average of 5/6 clues per week, a pretty exciting prospect if you ask me!
To be continued…
