[TGWTDT] An Italian Team Effort To The Spanish Flower Rescue
Warning — Attenzione — Cuidado
Feel Good Story
This is the coolest testimony I have read yet. A special thank you goes to Daniele Bellè for writing it, sharing it and most importantly being such a team player that Barcelona’s Flower could be recovered on time.
Fasten your seatbelt, we are going to Europe:
I am a Mouth Taped Shut follower since the movie was announced, so I was tracking this treasure hunt very closely. I also teamed with a couple of friends in Milan to solve clues and understand patterns. Anyway, this morning I was in class at my University in Milan when I got a Twitter SMS (I have @mouthtapedshut and @star_nubalo mobile notifications activated) revealing a new picture and probably a new clue.
Soon it’s discovered to be in Barcelona. I was really happy about that because #mouthtapedshut was back in Europe again and actually next to Italy, but nevertheless I stopped watching my iPhone (the only device I had with me to monitor the Internet) and kept following my class, convinced that somebody would’ve found the package already. At 12h (CET) I’m about to leave and I give another look at whatishiddeninsnow.com/trespass when I realize that nobody has found the package yet and say to myself: “Let’s try something.“
Little premise: here in Italy, Twitter isn’t as exactly widespread as facebook, so I posted this: http://on.fb.me/sr6ZWV
Some of my friends were mocking me, “As if any of your Facebook friends is in Barcelona right now“, some got curious, but after my little attempt, I just left the building and headed home.
When I got a hold on my home PC, I made a friend search by current city looking for people currently in Barcelona and suddenly I recalled that my old schoolmate Lorenzo was doing an Erasmus there. There was just 30 minutes left on WIHIS, I had to get his attention. So I compulsively started writing on his Facebook mail, tagged him in my previous post, I even asked a friend of mine for Lori’s Spanish cellphone number and bombed him with sms.
1 – Lor, it’s Billo. I know it seems like an absurd request. But if you are in Barcelona right now quit everything and go to Mercado de San José (Liceu metro stop) at the stand #569. You got thirty minutes, there should be a package waiting, it’s all part of a worldwide treasure hunt. I’m serious!
2- There should be bananas there. Let me know.
3- It’s the Boqueria Market. I didn’t realize it ’till now.
He didn’t answer. I watched the countdown getting relentlessly towards 00:00:00. When it got there all my mind could process was: “That damn flower is gone.”
We all thought that.
Then, the word FOUND appeared and I thought “Well, at least somebody managed to find it. Maybe it was those guys who wanted to call Dunkin’ Donuts speaking in bad spanish to the clerks.”
At that exact moment, my phone rang.
1-Billo, it’s Lor. I won.
I was speechless. And unbelievably happy.
THINGS I DISCOVERED LATER:
Apparently, when I tried to contact him, Lorenzo was studying at the University of Barcelona which coincidentally is at 12 minutes walking distance from the Boqueria Market. He ran for the package without even knowing what all that was about. That’s what a lucky break is. And a good friend.
