Is It Too Late For A Christmas Miracle In The Filmmakers Community?
To all the filmmakers/artists/creatives whose perseverance and endurance have been tested, I hope this story will touch and inspire you as much as it did to me.
A week ago, Ted Hope posted a guest article from filmmaker Jane Weiner titled: Perseverance & Endurance: Necessary Elements For Every Film. I knew nothing about Weiner but perseverance and endurance being both my two favorites enemies and lovers, I clicked on the link and got propelled into a story both inspiring and heartbreaking.
40 years ago, Weiner started shooting a documentary about Richard Leacock that is still in progress for many reasons, many of these reasons being obstacles we all meet in our journey to create and that often break our will power to continue. (I’d recommend you read the article linked above for all the great details)
But Weiner is apparently made of a special wood, and decades passing didn’t break her passion for this special project.
Weiner started a Kickstarter campaign that will end in three days to help her finally finish her documentary. In three days the campaign will close, and if she doesn’t get the $13,500 missing, the $11,500 she managed to mobilize will be lost and who knows when and if this documentary will see the day of light.
As I said, I didn’t know Jane Weiner and to be honest, I didn’t know Richard Leacock either (boo on me I’m sure) but as a filmmaker I felt this urge to become a backer and make a little gesture (that comes with great perks, I am not a saint) to support what seems like the ultimate project when it comes to passion, perseverance and endurance.
My contribution is small, I’m sure it helps but it’s not enough, and many more people would need to do what I have done for Ricky on Leacock to become a reality.
Unfortunately the holidays season have postponed this article and precious days have been lost, but even if it only motivates one person to learn more about it and/or converts her/him into a backer, I feel this article would have been justified.
