Youtube Launches “Your Film Festival” For a $500,000 Win and A Screening At the Venice Film Festival
Youtube and Emirates, in partnership with Scott Free Productions (Ridley and Tony’s production house) are launching ‘Your Film Festival’, a global online film festival that will open its doors to your less than 15 minute short movie starting February 2nd and until March 31st.
What makes this festival attractive is clearly its prizes: the winner will not only get a screening at the Venice Film Festival (along with the 9 other finalists) but he/she will also get $500,000 to shoot another movie under Scott Film Productions ‘supervision’.
That is not something you overlook lightly.
Another positive aspect of this competition is that it is the second round (to go from the 50 semifinalists to the 10 finalists) that is ‘judged’ by the public online, so at least, unlike many film festivals using the voting system, you will get to have your film seen by ‘professionals’ (or so we can assume).
Another negative aspect of this competition is that the online voting lasts almost two months, and if you have been part of an online voting campaign before, you know this is enough time to have everybody around you hate and your loved ones for six generations.
You can only submit works that have not been distributed before January 1st, 2010, and you have to be of 18 of age, two basics criteria that shouldn’t limit too many people.
So dig out the short that has been taking dust in your drawer, or write and shoot something before March 31st, Your Film Festival will be the next step in someone’s career, might as well be you.
