Create Your Own Hyper-lapse From Google Street Views In a Click
Prepare to have your mind blown away
Yep, you’ve read that well.
You don’t need a camera anymore to create a hyper-lapse. You actually don’t need anything but a computer and an Internet connection.
Read the story behind the project:
“Hyper-lapse photography – a technique combining time-lapse and sweeping camera movements typically focused on a point-of-interest – has been a growing trend on video sites. It’s not hard to find stunning examples on Vimeo. Creating them requiresprecision and many hours stitching together photos taken from carefully mapped locations. We aimed at making the process simpler by using Google Street View as an aid, but quickly discovered that it could be used as the source material. It worked so well, we decided to design a very usable UI around our engine and release Google Street View Hyperlapse.” (read a detailed behind-the-scene here)
And watch a stunning demonstration of what can be achieved:
If tweaking codes is not your thing, you can always have fun playing with the friendly hyper-lapse generator Teehan Lax Labs provided. Click on ‘Create your Own‘, place two points anywhere on the world map and voila!
Back in 2011, Tom Jenkins’ stop-motion animation made of Google Street Views went viral in few days, today Labs takes it to a whole other level by making the code free and available to anyone, “so developers can play with higher frame rates, better image quality, and more complicated camera movements.”
That’s the spirit.
