The Movies’ Stars Are Visual Effects: Must-Watch NAB Meetup About VFX’s Future
During the NAB SuperMeet last April, vfx veterans Scott Ross and Scott Squire, gave a passionate, funny and highly informative speech about the state of VFX: why it is in the situation it is now, what is going to happen if things don’t change and how things can/should change for a better world and for better movies.
If you remember, last February, while Ang Lee and Claudio Miranda were winning Oscars and congratulating each other, the company that made Life of Pi possible (Rhythm and Hues) was filing for bankruptcy and given a humiliating short amount of time to speak on TV.
It is impossible today to make movies and think you don’t need to know about VFX, what they can do and when you can use them. As Scott Squires said it above, every movies today –and more and more TV Shows– have visual effects in it. Unfortunately, at the pace things are going for the VFX Industry, there will soon be no-one left to achieve those effects that make Hollywood Studios, their bank accounts and viewers so happy.
Squires and Ross deliver what the title promised with a fierce passion during 35 minutes. They don’t hide they are angry and tired (for good reasons), but they are also driven and engaged in finding solutions to help the VFX Industry come out of a gloomy situation all the while making it a better situation for the Movie Industry as well.
Watch and share this talk that could use as many viewers as possible. You will understand everything you need to know about the VFX Industry and why it is key that find a solution asap:
