Ricky Gervais Shares How He Learned to Write in Creation Stories’ First Installment
Fastcocreate is launching a new series dedicated to creativity and storytelling named Creation Stories, and to kick off their first installment, they have interviewed British humorist, screenwriter, actor, director and producer Ricky Gervais.
Asked what were his inspirations, Gervais soberly answered ‘who cares’, but he also shared the story that transformed the way he understood storytelling and writing. If Gervais got his breakthrough with his brilliant work on The Office (as co-creator/writer/director with Stephen Merchant, and main actor), that depicts the day-to-day lives of office employees as if they were filmed by a documentarian crew, he didn’t always find the ordinary world inspiring.
Up until he was 13, Gervais liked to write stories that had little to do with his life, and then his english teacher said something that would change everything for him. The full video with the story is 3 min long and can be watched below.[thanks to La Guilde Francaise des Scenaristes]
