After the MOVI, Freefly Systems Disrupts the Field Again with MIMIC (and You Can Win One!)
I don’t talk about gear often on mentorless (understatement), and actually, the last time I did it was two years ago when Vincent Laforet and Freefly Systems launched the MOVI. It felt like a game changer was introduced, and needed to be mentioned. Today, the same company, paired this time with none other than Chase Jarvis to reveal their latest disruptive gear, MIMIC.
Here is what Jarvis, who broke the exclusive news about MIMIC on his blog, says about it:
So why is MIMIC so revolutionary? In short: MIMIC fills in a previously-huge gap in cinema. Where the MOVI brought camera stabilization out of Hollywood and delivered it to the masses…MIMIC now allows people with even the most limited camera experience to “drive” the camera in the very most intuitive way imaginable.
As you can see from the picture above, or will in the video below, MIMIC can be set as a screen mounted on a handlers that let you see what the camera sees and literally control it from a distance. Chase Jarvis also shot via MIMIC set on ‘VR-like glasses’, meaning, he operated the camera by moving his head… yep. New times are coming.
Watch the video below for a better look at what MIMIC can do, and if you like what you see, Jarvis and Freefly Systems are offering one full set, worth $5,000, on May the 16. You can play for a chance to win here.
