Enter The Stillmotion Masterclass: 14 Weeks of Hard Work for a Jump in Your Craft
A few years ago, you could put information online, ask people to pay for it, and they would. Today things are changing at a fast pace and for the better: it’s no longer enough to dump content onto people’s lap, you need to ‘educate’, and I say this in the best way possible.
I am the biggest advocate for online education free of borders, that’s why I’ve set up the Design Your Own Film School Page. But with the multiplication of programs and sites that offer content, the hardest part isn’t to find knowledge, it’s to find the right program for you, that will keep you accountable and that will provide the knowledge you need in a clear and strict timeframe.
“I did a course online that worked really well, they were really highly rated, and they had an 80% drop-out rate, which is way better than anybody else, cause other online courses have a 97% drop-out rate. And I’m thinking “I love making these courses, but why are people dropping out of my courses and everyone else’s?” And the reason is because when it gets hard, and there’s no social pressure, you leave.
So what I said was “How do I make the opposite of an online course?” That meant instead of a million people, a hundred, instead of being free, it’s expensive, instead of letting everyone in you have to apply; instead of being easy, it’s hard, and instead of being on your own, it’s a group thing where there are coaches watching you all the time, and instead of lectures, it’s really 100% projects based.”
And this is where Stillmotion comes. Stillmotion is a team of storytellers I’ve been following for years. Very early on, they’ve started sharing their knowledge for free in online masterclasses and great blog posts.
Last year, they released the MUSE program, an online course that breaks down storytelling for video projects in a unique way. Some of you did enrol in the program, and to quote filmmaker Elodie Ly Tri, “it rocked your word“.
Today Stillmotion is back with a program that follows Seth Godin’s thinking; The Masterclass.
The Masterclass is:
- a 14 weeks program
- that costs $1,997US
- that asks you to actually create every week
- that provides you mentors and a slack channel
- that is limited to 100 people per class
- that gives you software, downloads, webinars and your usual ton of info
So you have the content, you have the spine, it’s hard work and it’s expensive. And by expensive I mean that 2k is rarely a light commitment. You do it or you don’t, but few people pay 2k and forget about it. If you pay, you will do it.
The first program starts April 15th and is limited to 70 people. There are less than 20 seats left.
If you’ve been looking for those criteria, check the page for the full list of what you’ll get, and what you’ll need to do. Because this is not a one way conversation.
You can also join the MUSE program, that is a self-paced program and have full-time access for $327. I’ve followed the MUSE program, which I found excellent, and is a powerful tool I do recommend.
It’s always the same process: know what you need, and find how to fulfil those needs best.
Is Stillmotion’s Masterclass what you need? If the answer is yes, get a spot before it closes.
