First Team Meeting in Istanbul (Film Log #22)
The Film Log is a weekly video I record to share my journey making my first feature film, In Five Years. In these videos, I share what I learn and discover as I go about all aspects of being a first time indie filmmaker in today’s changing landscape. First Team Meeting in Istanbul
For the first time since Muge Ozen became ‘In 5 Years‘ producer, Gizem Evcin joined as a Creative Producer, and we decided to give ourselves one year to see how far we could take this baby, the three of us have been reunited in Istanbul, Turkey.
I’m spending the month here, to work on the film and other creative projects with Gizem, who happens to be my partner in creative crimes. The day before this meeting, a bomb exploded not far from where we stay. Nobody we know got hurt and we didn’t get hurt, but a dozen people got wiped off this planet in a blink, and it could have been us.
This type of reality check influence the texture of our daily conversations, the motives behind creating something, or not creating something, and the level of lightness you bring into a project.
Soon we will be going on location scouting, in a few days Muge will be on set to shoot a comedy, life goes on and yet, it’s never exactly the same.
No matter, as you can see from the cover picture below, you chose to be alive or not. We’re determined, focused and passionate, all three qualities to have when you make a first feature film in a city that tends to explode.
