directed by Ruben Ostlund (2014)
Even though it won Un Certain Regard at Cannes, represented Sweden at the Oscars and pretty much made the unanimity with the critics, I knew absolutely nothing about Force Majeure before watching it, and it knocked me down.
I spent the next three days exclusively talking about it. The film reaches near perfection to me -I say near because a couple of scenes threw me off, but a couple of scenes on a full film is a detail.
Ostlund perfectly combines the cold aesthetic of the ski resorts, with its bulky equipments and advanced technology to help humans ski, and the boiling human drama that unravels.
I have to confess that the reactions around me have been divided between love and rejection and this, my friends, is a sign of a good movie. Under the apparent simplicity of its premise and treatment, it unlocks strong reactions.
