Robe de Marié
written by Pierre Lemaitre
This is a French thriller (polar), that hasn’t been translated into other languages yet, but it should soon as Lemaitre won one of the most prestigious literary prize (Le Goncourt) for his first novel (Au Revoir Là Haut) and now everybody goes back to exploring his thrillers.
If you can read in French, go for it though, Lemaitre is one of those few who knows how to use this beautiful language in a dynamic and rich way.
The thriller itself is well done and dark, it could easily have been considered a novel, and When She Woke a thriller, the line is thin there.
If you’ve enjoyed The Collector and/or Before I Go to Sleep, it’s in the same mood; hello, psychological darkness. It’s also very catchy, I just wished there had been a few pages more toward the end, but that’s a personal thing, I find it hard to let it go sometimes. You’ve been warned.
Robe de Marié was selected in the Monthly Creative Menu #19, which was emailed in August 2015.
